THE GOOD FASCIST Cinema From Other Countries

The explosive subject matter of director Helena Nogueira’s latest offering is certain to shock and disturb audiences, as her films have in the past. The Good Fascist deals with the repercussions of the 1974 civil war in Mozambique, following the intersecting stories of two men: Filipe, a white fascist whose terrorist acts involve him in a sensational trial, and Tsepo, a rebel against white colonialism in Soweto. Thanks to several tense courtroom scenes, The Good Fascist is strong on engrossing drama and contains several neat twists. Sella Maake Ka-Nkube gives a sensitive, angst-ridden performance as a visionary black activist. -Tony Jackman, Screen International
