HELLO, HEMINGWAY Latino Cinema

Hello Hemingway is a thoughtful, lovely little film about a bright young neighbor of Ernest Hemingway’s in pre-revolutionary Cuba who finds a metaphor for her own life in “The Old Man and the Sea.” Larita is shocked because – after all the old man’s efforts to catch fish – when he finally catches one bigger than his boat he loses it. In her own life, this ace student has a chance to win a scholarship, but she loses it because her poor family doesn’t have the proper social status. Technical credits are good and many pastel shades create rosy visuals, making Havana look like a postcard -Susan Ayscough, Variety
