This majestic revisionist portrayal of the Spanish conquest of the New World has a pro-Indian stance reminiscent of Dances With Wolves and Black Robe. The story chronicles the experiences of Friar Santiago, a missionary who accompanies Spanish conquistadors to South America. When he confronts the greed and cannibalism of the “civilized” Spaniards, he sheds his Friar’s robes and becomes a member of the Indian tribe. The acting is strong, and the film is technically stunning as Andres Augusti’s rich camerawork recreates this lost world. -Paul Lenti, Variety
