JAMES ELLROY International Authors and Films

Crime writer James Ellroy has become one of the major literary voices of Los Angeles in recent years. Austrian filmmaker Reinhard Jud follows the author of “the best crime thrillers in the world” through his native LA, exploring the cityscape which inspires his novels. More than conventional portraiture, this engrossing documentary is the result of joint research undertaken by the filmmakers and Ellroy, as they seek to uncover the roots of his apocalyptic work. The author of ten books, including The Black Dahlia and White Jazz, ElIroy tackles the contemporary traumas of sex, violence, and fear which torment the contemporary urban dweller. Exploring the scenes of notorious Los Angeles crimes and discussing its historical figures, Ellroy shares his own understanding and vision of a community which has long fascinated the world.
