THE MIRACLE (1991) Tribute to Miramax: Ten Years of Hits

Neil Jordan’s The Miracle is a beguiling yarn set in a seaside Irish resort. Told by Jimmy (Niall Byrne), a wet-behind-the-ears teen, The Miracle is a coming-of-age story spiked with a heavy dose of family history. Like Jordan’s Mona Lisa, this is essentially a toadand- princess love story, but this time it’s laced with incestuous undertones. D’Angelo is wonderfully alluring, while Byrne splendidly realizes his character’s awkward grace. A tip ‘o the hat also to director of photography Rousselot who captures the grandeur of the Irish seaside in swell, fitting fashion. -Duane Byrge, Hollywood Reporter
