FRESH KILL U.S. Independents - Fiction

Shu Lea Cheang makes her directorial debut with this satirical, hyper-paced, ecological nightmare of a film. The story focuses on an interracial lesbian couple, Claire and Shareen, and their daughter, Honey. Problems start when Honey is kidnapped by ,· Shareen’s father. But the real trouble begins when patrons of Shareen’s posh sushi restaurant turn flourescent green. The crisis escalates when a global media corporation’s involvement with toxic waste is discovered. After Honey becomes contaminated, our heroines decide to get to the bottom of this fishy situation themselves . Visual and verbal puns abound as Fresh Ki/l’s cast of characters catapult across the surreal landscape of this timely, highly original comedy noir.-Shown with Mott Street (US.A., 1993, 10 min), Robert Levi’s off-beat film noir about finding love.
