HEAD American Cinema

Written by Jack Nicholson and Bob Rafelson (prior to their Five Easy Pieces hit), this psychedelic
trip finds the mad mod TV rock group the Monkees (hey, hey) dissing themselves and the· industry
a la A Hard Day’s Night. Reviewed in Daily Variety as “A mind blowing collage of mixed media, a
free-for-all freakout of rock music and psychedelic splashes of color,” this irreverant, zany montage
was praised as a cinematic masterpiece in France and has become a cult classic. Leonard
Maltin calls it ” … a delightful explosion of crazy ideas with no coherent plot, many old film clips,
some good songs, and such unlikely guest stars as Sonny Liston and Victor Mature. Well worth
seeing.” We heartily concur.
