SHOTGUN FREEWAY: DRIVES THRU LOST L.A. American Cinema

Like a surreal educational film frorn’ihe 1950s, this tour of Los Angeles’ anguished coming of
age-from pueblo to condo, explores the lives of 14 Angelenos whose oral histories attempt to
illuminate this undefinable, noir city. Ranging from artist to activist to freethinker, these residents
take us to the far corners of L.A. to relive its history. Jazz musician Buddy Collette blows by
Central Avenue; noir novelist James Ellroy and author Joan Didion discuss philosophies of the
city; writer Buck Henry visits the Max Factor and Hollywood Wax Museums; we relive the waves
of Malibu with director John Milius. Hip, nostalgic and reverent, this is a trip worth taking.
