CAPRICIOUS SUMMER (ROZMARNÉ LÉTO) Czech Literature in Czech Film

This is a not to be missed delight from award winning director Jirf Menzel ( Closely Watched
Trains, My Sweet Little Village, Cutting It ShorO. At a second-rate turn of the century resort, the
pool manager, a priest and an ex-major spend a sleepy summer day swimming, drinking, eating
and pontificating on life in orotund language-until an aerialist/magician (director Menzel, who
learned tightrope walking for the film) and his beautiful “assistant” come to town and each of the
trio in turn gets humiliatingly convinced that it’s too late for adventure. “Extremely fine! A film of
subtle acting quality, as blithe as an outdoor color film by Renoir.”-Archer Winsten, The New
York Post
