TAKE CARE OF YOUR SCARF, TATIANA (PIDÄ HUIVISTA KIINI, TATJANA) International Cinema

A quirky, droll road movie about the deadpan adventures of two Finnish men, driving a black
Volga station wagon through Finland some time in the mid-sixties. Vallo, the owner of the car,
drinks enormous amounts of coffee. Reino, a mechanic, drinks booze and blabbers endlessly.
Enter two women-one Estonian, one Russian-and in spite of difficulties in communication
and the obvious inability of these men to approach the opposite sex, this absurd comedy takes
on a sentimental tone. Shown with Exterior Night, (USA, 1994, 36 min.), Mark Rappaport’s
(From the Journals of Jean Seberg) unique film using the actual background scenes and rear
screen process plates from Warner Bros. films from the early 30’s to the early 50’s, in which a
young man travels in time to try to find out about the grandfather he never knew, a Philip Marlowe
type detective who wrote pulp fiction novels which were made into films.
