Bona is an 1 8-year-old woman of a lower
middle class family in the Philippines.
Young and romantic in the midst of the
poverty and hardship around her, she one
day spies Gordo, a young actor, performing
a bit role in a film. She follows him
home, only to witness him being beaten up
by a group of men who wish to discourage
his attentions towards the sister of one
of the group. Bona takes him home and
cares for him, but is promptly beaten by
her father upon her return home the next
day. She moves in with Gordo, who continues
his philandering, betraying his frustration
with vulgar assertiveness. Gordo
on one side, her father on the other, Bona
the young woman struggles to maintain
love and dignity in a world that presents
her with few choices.
