LUST AND REVENGE Australia

Claudia Karvan plays bored, wealthy
divorcee Georgina Oliphant, spoiled
daughter of pharmaceutical tycoon George
Oliphant. George urgently needs to reduce
his company’s profits for tax purposes, and
decides to sponsor the creation of an
ambitious bronze statue, 100% tax
deductible, to be donated to a new wing
of the National Gallery. When out-of-work
Karl-Heinz Applebaum successfully applies
to be the model for this work of art, he’s at
first unaware he’ll be expected to pose
nude. But he soon gets used to the idea,
especially when the flirtatious Georgina is
around. Karl-Heinz’s wife, Cecilia isn’t so
happy. Inevitably, Karl-Heinz and
Georgina begin an affair, and when
Cecilia discovers this, .she plots her revenge.
If, in the end, Lust and Revenge isn’t quite
as amusing as you want it to be, it’s perhaps
because there’s a sense that Cox
despises most of these characters who pay
lip service to the arts and yet who systematically
exploit them. This is a comedy with
a bitter center. -David Stratton, Variety
