THE BRYLCREEM BOYS European Union Film Showcase

The story of The Brylcreem Boys takes
place against the backdrop of the
Republic of Ireland in 1941, when-as
part of an effort to remain strictly neutralthe
Dublin Government made a deal with
both Berlin and London whereby any soldier
captured on Irish soil, whether of
German or Allied forces, would be
interned for the duration of the war. What
the Irish failed to mention was that they
would intern everybody in the same camp.
It is here that Myles Keogh and Rudolph
von Stegenbek, Canadian and German
airmen, meet. Off the camp, both Myles
and Rudolph meet and fall in love with
Mattie Guerin-an independent woman
who refuses to choose sides in their private
war. The consequent rivalry for the affections
of Mattie causes both men to finally
confront their supposed differences and,
through their shared love for the same
woman, change their attitudes and feelings
towards each other and their perception
of an enemy.
