HOMBRES COMPLICADOS Official Competition

This darkly comic film about brotherly love – and
hate – is part gangster film, part road movie, and totally
wild. Roger is a smooth petty crook who is not quite
clever enough for the big time. Constantly in debt, he
makes a habit of borrowing from his mother, convincing
her it is an advance on his inheritance. When two thugs to
whom he owes money come after Roger, he appeals to
his straight-laced customs officer brother Bruno, but to no
avail.
Bruno is a dutiful son, repulsed by Roger’s
irresponsibility. Fate seems to smile on Roger when he
hears that mother has died suddenly. Sadly, he finds there
is only enough money to cover her funeral. fn a moment
of genius, Roger manages to convince Bruno that this is
their chance to salvage their relationship and take a trip
with their wives, spending the money on themselves in a
grand gesture to their mother. Miraculously, Bruno
agrees.
Nothing goes as expected, either for the characters
or the audience, as Deruddere leads his extremely quirky
characters down a road with more than a few unexpected
turns, taking some piercing jabs at family ties along the
way.
