AVE MARÍA Latin Cinema Series

In 1649 Mexico, Maria Inez is a beautiful, educated mestizo (half Indian, half Spanish) daughter of a Spanish duke, studying Botany and Astronomy in a mission financed by her father. Unfortunately, Maria’s brilliance and worldliness are met with anger and jealousy by the mission’s priests and nuns, and particularly the monsignor. When Maria’s father dies, she loses all her privileges and is forced to concentrate on her soul. As all material possessions are taken from her, Maria discovers her true inner calling and leaves the confinement of the mission to work among the native people. Her vision of faith by love, and healing by helping, threatens the Spaniards and the faith as they see it. Opposing Church and Crown, Maria will have to pay an enormous price in her fight for equality and freedom.

AVE MARIA is an inspiring fable of faith, love and freedom. Willing to sacrifice herself to save those around her, Maria is a hero in the tradition of Joan of Arc.
