EXILES IN NEW YORK Latin Cinema Series

Juan, a refugee from Guatemala, arrives in New York ready to live the American Dream. However, he soon meets the last bastion of American idealism – liberals – and finds that America is much more confusing than he had ever imagined. Torn culturally between the old world and the new, financially between the practical and the ideal, and emotionally between doing right for others and doing right for himself, Juan experiences the insanity of modern America. Orin, a 20- something Brit in a funk, arrives in New York looking for freedom. With no green card and little money, Orin falls in love with a woman twice his age who is obsessed with doing good deed, but their affair takes a surprising turn, throwing Orin into a downward spiral.

Award-winning Cuban-American playwright and director Eduardo Machado intertwines the stories of these two men and their experiences in an honest and funny portrait of exiled life set to a unique Latin beat.
