BOBBY G. CAN’T SWIM New Directions

Bobby Grace is a low-level drug dealer living a hand-to-mouth existence with his prostitute girlfriend in New York’s infamous Hell’s Kitchen. When some out-of-town rich kids want to score a kilo, Bobby G. sees the chance to make some real money. But after setting up a deal with a local heavy, he bungles the job. Now in debt for $30,000, he has one hour to either come up with the money or lose his life.

Inspired by some of the real-life regulars he encountered while bartending in Hell’s Kitchen, John-Luke Montias has created a forceful cinema verite street drama about lost souls attempting to find their way back. “Some people who would make money doing bad things would often try to make up for it by doing something good. The theme of redemption has always fascinated me.”
