PIGEONHOLED New Directions

Eighteen-year-old Devon has spent his adolescence failing at everything. Disgusted, his father duct-tapes him to the passenger seat of the family Jaguar and drops him at Sunny Meadows rehabilitation center. There, Devon meets Kayleigh (the anorexic), Gabby (the overeater), Eve (the nymphomaniac) and Eric (the sexually confused jock). Devon initially retreats to his room, where he loses himself in daydream-hallucinations of his dead mother. Eventually, he bonds with the group in a collective bitterness for parents and for less than perfect childhoods. But a late night trip to a local bar has disastrous consequences for his budding romance with Kayleigh, and Devon flees the rehab center in yet another attempt to escape his life. In his final journey, Devon is forced to come to terms with the truth about his mother and ultimately about himself.

This coming-of-age black comedy from The Swanhaus Brothers is a hallucinatory trip somewhere between THE BREAKFAST CLUB and ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST.
