JAZZ EPISODE 4: THE TRUE WELCOME Documentary Competition

Master documentarian Ken Burns brings us a sneak peek at his third and final epic documentary, rounding out an American trilogy which includes the award-winning films BASEBALL and CIVIL WAR. The fourth episode of this much-anticipated 19-part series explores the American landscape divided by war, segregated by race and united through jazz.

With many rare and never-before-seen archival film clips, JAZZ follows the musical journey with some of America’s most original, most creative and most tragic artists, including Jelly Roll Morton, Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong. These extraordinary personalities are highlighted by A-list narration from Samuel L. Jackson, Harry Connick, Jr. and Matthew Broderick.

A more comprehensive piece of history would be hard to come by, thanks to Burns’ skillful combination of profound interviews, striking footage and fluid editing.
