INNOCENCE European Showcase

The surprising sleeper hit on this year’s festival circuit, INNOCENCE has been both critically and popularly acclaimed: Paul Cox’s film won the Grand Jury and Audience Awards at Montreal WorldFest, received the Prix FIPRESCI at Taormina and was named one of the best films at Cannes by Roger Ebert.

Claire and Andreas are reunited 50 years after they had been lovers. The hitch: she is married to another man. The film cuts between memories of their thwarted romance in post-war Belgium, and the emotional complications in the present as they cautiously renew their relationship with increasing passion. When Claire’s husband discovers the affair, Claire must search her soul-and all of their hearts-to make a painful choice.

Bolstered by moving performances from Julia Blake and Charles Tingwell, as well as beautiful cinematography by Tony Clark, INNOCENCE proves that love is not the exclusive province of youth.
