BREAD AND ROSES Latin Cinema Series

The latest verite masterpiece from legendary British director Ken Loach, BREAD AND ROSES is a self-proclaimed David and Goliath story of union struggles in Los Angeles. Working with an Hispanic cast, as he had previously with LAND AND FREEDOM, Loach explores the reality of an immigrant’s life.

Based on the Justice for Janitors Campaign, the film follows a Mexican immigrant named Maya, her sister Rosa, and union organizer Sam (Adrien Brody) in their fight for equality and respect. For those whose only contact with the Los Angeles Film profession consists of mopping the producer’s floor, this is one story whose subject has rarely been represented.

The quietly commanding performances by Brody (SUMMER OF SAM, LIBERTY HEIGHTS) and Pilar Padilla provide great depth and humanity to Paul Laverty’s insightful script.
