WAITING FOR THE MESSIAH (ESPERANDO AL MESIAS) Latin Cinema Series

Soon after his Bar-Mitzvah, Daniel Burman “realized that being proud of my roots didn’t mean being convinced about my destiny. And so I began looking for my Messiah.” The result is this provocative meditation on parallel universes coexisting in the modern city.

WAITING FOR THE MESSIAH contrasts the identity crises of two men in Buenos Aires. Ariel is a young boy who, though proud of his Jewish heritage, suddenly feels compelled to stretch beyond the traditions that seem to have his future mapped out for him. Middleaged Santamaria, on the other hand, sees his future disintegrate as he loses his job, his marriage and his home. The film interweaves their stories as they move through the city, seeking themselves in new worlds.

This compelling film, where coming-of-age crosses mid-life-crisis, was fashioned with affection and sympathy by screenwriters Burman and Emilio Torres.
