SOMETHING SWEET New Directions From American Independents

With flawless execution and fluid storytelling, it’s hard to believe SOMETHING SWEET is writer/director Olivia Pi-Sunyer’s debut feature film.

Under the weight of her family’s lofty expectations, Mel returns from college to be with her dying father and hardened grandmother in their New England family home. She leaves her sensible paralegal position and takes a sous chef job at a struggling diner. Barely holding herself together, Mel and the passionate diner owner, Lee, strike up an unlikely bond of inconsolable loneliness. Lee encourages her to confront her father, grandmother and herself. Only after long held secrets are shattered can they return their lives to some semblance of heightened normalcy.

Fueled by fierce, nuanced performances from Lauren Stamile and Nick Chinlund, SOMETHING SWEET marks the debut of an astonishing young filmmaker.
