VERY MEAN MEN New Directions From American Independents

In this quirky dork comedy from the director of KISS ME GUIDO, a bartender (Matthew Modine) tries to frighten a tip out of a cheap drunk (Academy-Award-winner Mortin Landau) by spinning a crazy tale about two notorious families who go to war over a waitress being stiffed her tip. In pitting the Italian volley mob against the Irish valley mob, this sly gangster satire transports us back and forth between two wholly different groups of people focused on the some exact thing-not taking any crop from each other.

Paul T. Murray’s smooth dialogue and Ennio Di Berordo’s excellent score aptly complement Alex Vendler’s inventive cinematography. The all-star cast also includes Ben Gazzara, Scott Baio and Charles Durning.
