SENSE AND SENSIBILITY Ang Lee Retrospective

SENSE AND SENSIBILITY is a beautiful evocation of the 19th century English gentry and its ruins. The film tells the story of a newly impoverished widow and her two daughters and the tangled complications caused by the daughters’ love affairs.

Based on the Jane Austen novel, SENSE AND SENSIBILITY was nominated for seven Academy Awards®, including Best Picture, with Emma Thompson winning for Best Screenplay Adaptation. Both Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet were nominated for their performances in the film. The film received Golden Globe Awards for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay and was cited on more than 100 critics’ “Ten Best” lists.
