THE ICE STORM Ang Lee Retrospective

THE ICE STORM is Ang Lee’s penetrating adaptation of Rick Moody’s novel about America’s upper middle-class suburbs in the 1970s. It’s a beautifully interwoven story of two families’ lives, their sexual awakenings and the effect that parents’ decisions have on both their teenage children’s relationships and their views of the world. The story, based on a real-life ice storm, provides the slippery context for the lives of its characters.

THE ICE STORM premiered at the 1997 Cannes Film Festival (where it won Best Screenplay) and was selected as the Opening Night film of the 1997 New York Film Festival.
