DOGTOWN AND Z-BOYS Documentary Competition

Bursting out of Santa Monica in the early ’70s, the
Z-Boys blew people’s minds with their surf-influenced
take-no-prisoners skateboarding style.
Narrated by Sean Penn, this long-awaited Los
Angeles screening chronicles the Z-Boys’ legendary
exploits.
Director Stacy Peralta, one of the original Z-Boys,
captures the thrilling evolution of a rag-tag team of
misfit surfers and their rise to subculture popularity
through a new style of aggressive skateboarding.
Backed by a kick-ass soundtrack including Led
Zeppelin, Suicidal Tendencies and Black Sabbath,
DOGTOWN AND Z-BOYS reunites the original
Zephyr team members and relives their explosion
into American pop culture.
With brilliant and skillful archival footage shot by a
young Peralta and others, this well-crafted documentary
evokes nostalgia for 1970s Los Angeles
and a cultural phenomenon that exploded and
redefined skateboarding. -Julianna Brannum
