OKIE NOODLING Documentary Competition

Gritty, down-home and boldly unique, OKIE NOODLING chronicles the tradition of handfishing or “noodling,” in the rural rivers of Oklahoma.

Filmmaker Bradley Beesley dives into the murky waters to catch a brief glimpse of this dying breed of obscure fishermen, who catch whole 60-pound catfish with their bare hands, in lieu of fishing poles. With a desire to expose the sport, Beesley produces the first-ever Noodling Tournament to bring these good ol’ boys together for a serious, statewide competition. With hands bloodied and sometimes broken, this traditional Native American hunting technique is a dangerous and bizarre experience. Beesley captures it all brilliantly through beautiful Oklahoma scenery, an original score by The Flaming Lips and the funny and charming noodlers themselves.

Not to be missed, this quirky film will grab you-hook, line and sinker-exposing you to a regional subculture you’ll never forget.
