TALK TO HER (HABLE CON ELLA) Galas

From Academy Award®-winning writer/director Pedro Almodovar (MATADOR, WOMEN ON THE VERGE OF A NERVOUS BREAKDOWN, ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER) comes TALK TO HER, a tender film about madness.

Two strangers, Benigno (Dario Grandinetti) and Marco (Leonor Watling), sit together in an audience, watching an emotional experimental dance performance to the music of Henry Purcell’s The Fairy Queen. When Marco begins crying, Benigno can see the gleam of his tears in the darkened hall.

Months later, the two men meet again at “El Bosque,” a private clinic where Benigno works as a nurse. Lydia, Marco’s girlfriend and a bullfighter by profession, has been gored and is in a coma. It so happens that Benigno is looking after another woman in a coma-a young ballet student named Alicia. It is the beginning of an intense friendship, as the lives of all four characters flow in all directions-past, present and future-dragging them all towards an unsuspected destiny.

With a pure love for his characters that’s apparent in every scene, Almodovar delivers a film that is characteristic of his visual sense and narrative style, yet free to explore the fringes of human emotion and social taboos on its own terms. Funny, shocking and sad, TALK TO HER is a film about the joy of narration and about words as a weapon against solitude, disease, death and madness.
