BLIND SPOT – HITLER’S SECRETARY (IM TOTEN WINKLE. HITLERS SEKRETARIN) International Documentary Competition

In 1942, unassuming, apolitical 22-year-old typist Traudl Junge became Adolf Hitler’s personal secretary. In 2001, after nearly 60 years of silence, she decided to speak about her experiences.

In this intimate record of Junge’s first-ever on-screen interview, the camera never strays from her expressive face and mesmerizing words. Devoid of stock footage and pontificating history professors, the film focuses entirely on Junge and her memories. It’s all there-from her first assignment of opening love letters women sent to Hitler to her final task of sitting with him in his bunker, while, holding a puppy, he discusses the best way to kill himself.

More than an atypical portrait of Hitler, BLIND SPOT: HITLER’S SECRETARY is a testament to the strength and courage of an 81-year-old woman, finally confronting her troublesome past and the memories of the man for whom she once worked.
