CINEMANIA International Documentary Competition

For most people, movies are a form of entertainment. But for the five New York cinephiles featured in this unique documentary, movies are a psychological necessity-an obsession that dominates every waking moment.

We meet the characters in this delightfully deranged world through interviews in movie houses, on the street and in their homes. Many cannot hold a job, or choose not to. Some sustain their diets on hors d’oeuvres at opening night receptions. A few have no physical sex lives, living instead in a world of romance with stars like James Dean and Audrey Hepburn.

Racing across New York, these human cinema encyclopedias see two to five films a day, and from 600 to 2,000 films per year. They are the world’s biggest film fans; in CINEMANIA, they become the stars. This is the story of their lives, their memories and the films they love.
