NOTHING MORE (NADA MAS) Latin Cinema Series

Winner of the Best First Feature Award at the Havana Film Festival, NOTHING MORE enlists a cadre of innovative techniques-crisp black and white cinematography, fanciful language juxtaposed with absurd satire and slapstick, and colorful bursts of animation-all used to punctuate this quirky and stylized tale.

When we first meet Carla, she is awaiting an entry visa into the United States and working at the post office, mindlessly canceling the postage on each letter that crosses her desk. Overtaken by a meddlesome curiosity, Carla surreptitiously begins to read the mail, and even starts replacing awkward communications with more eloquent missives of her own. What first seems like a mindless diversion for Carla ultimately becomes her mission. With pen in hand, she sets out to heal the pain of the unsuspecting citizens of Havana. She becomes a modern-day Cyrano, capable of evoking untapped emotions with every passionate phrase. Carla’s biggest obstacle is that she must carry out her scheme under the watchful eye of her nemesis, the evil postmaster.

Director Juan Carlos Cremata Malberti creates an unforgettable experience that effectively moves between the poetic, ridiculous and poignant. NOTHING MORE radiates a unique and frenetic energy certain to make a lasting impression.
