GET CARTER Michael Caine Retrospective

Generally cast as a likable working-class bloke, Michael Caine cashed in this persona to play Jack Carter, a very unlikable London gangster who heads to the north of England to investigate the recent death of his brother.

The local police have written off the death as an apparent suicide, but Carter isn’t having any of that, and instead runs afoul of the local mob boss and his henchmen. When Carter uncovers the truth, he sets about avenging the death of his brother with grim results. Remade in 2000 with Sylvester Stallone in the title role, the original GET CARTER still shocks with its grim northern England urban grittiness and outlaw sensibility.
