THE WISER SEX Preservation Spotlight

THE WISER SEX is a virtually unknown Claudette Colbert film produced in the pre-Code era. Colbert has a lively double role as a woman of independence, who pretends to be a gold-digger to save her boyfriend, played by Melvyn Douglas, from a trumped-up murder charge. Colbert makes friends with the culprit, and, with the help of booze and diamonds, she eventually discovers the truth. This film was preserved with a grant from the Film Foundation and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

Both films were preserved by AFl’s National Center for Film and Video Preservation at the Library of Congress Motion Picture Conservation Center.
