MONSIEUR IBRAHIM (MONSIEUR IBRAHIM ET LES FLEURS DU CORAN) A Tribute to Omar Sharif

Based upon Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt’s novel, MONSIEUR IBRAHIM beautifully depicts Paris in the early 1960s as a place filled with the vibrant promise of social change.

Watching this new world go by from his dim apartment is adolescent Momo (Pierre Boulanger}, who lives with his father in the city’s red light district. Abandoned years before by Momo’s mother and older brother, his father has become severely depressed, and the pair have settled into a routine whereby Momo spends his days befriending the local prostitutes and listening to rock n’ roll, growing increasingly distant from his father, who unflatteringly compares him to his absent brother and forgets his birthday.

Unsupervised and alone, Momo finds companionship in a most unlikely place. The neighborhood shopkeeper, Monsieur Ibrahim (gently played by Omar Sharif in a truly memorable performance), an elderly Arab man who is known for little more than diligently reading his Koran and dispensing change from behind his counter, takes Momo under his wing. Together they begin a journey that will change their lives forever.
