HAPPY HOUR American Directions

HAPPY HOUR explores a tragic life drowning in booze. While a writer thinks he has all the time in the world to accomplish his goals, it might be too late when he meets the woman who could change his life.

Tully, a once promising writer, hides in the shadow of his famous writer father. When Tully meets Natalie at his regular watering hole, his quickwitted cynicism subsides as he welcomes a real relationship. But the years of drinking catch up with him, resulting in a serious health crisis . Although he first tries to push Natalie and hls friend Levine away, he soon embraces their help as he struggles with detox while racing against time to finish his Great American Novel.

In a tour-de-force performance, Anthony LaPaglia captures all the nuances of a man whose terrific wit shields his pain and frustration. The film expertly layers his incisive voiceover onto this tragic tale of redemption.
