BEAH: A BLACK WOMAN SPEAKS International Documentary Competition

In BEAH: A BLACK WOMAN SPEAKS, actress-turned-director LisaGay Hamilton (BELOVED, TRUE CRIME, THE PRACTICE) has made a stylishly smart film revealing the remarkable life of distinguished African American actress, teacher, poet and social activist, Beah Richards.

Arriving in Hollywood, young Beulah Richardson became Beah Richards. She has portrayed everyone’s mother including LisaGay Hamilton’s in BELOVED and Sidney Poitier’s in GUESS WHO’S COMING TO DINNER, for which she received an Oscar® nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Richards lived a remarkable life of integrity, fueled by leadership and service to two cultures she deeply loved-the arts and the African American community. Captured in this intimate portrait, Richards’ fire and quick wit is infectious and inspiring.

BEAH: A BLACK WOMAN SPEAKS is a terrific film that transcends issues of race and gender to pay homage to a remarkable woman.
