NOBODY NEEDS TO KNOW International Feature Competition

Award-winning short filmmaker (and son of avant-garde filmmaker Ken Jacobs) Azazel Jacobs makes his feature directorial debut, with a story about self-discovery and constantly changing observations within the poetic landscape of the New York indie film world.

Lamont steps outside of life’s continual surveillance and becomes the omnipotent viewer (along with the audience), commenting on various characters and their struggles. Iris refuses to act out a death scene in an audition, then discards her material belongings in order to “recreate” herself, rebelling against the thing her roommate craves the most-fame. The director holding the auditions witnesses an endless monotony of “deaths,” desperate for a unique presence, but realizes too late that it was Iris all along.

Using black and white surveillance cameras, Jacobs expresses an original vision about self-reflexivity. He illuminates the endless cycle of trends and rebellion in which rebellion becomes the trend, limiting the capacity for an individual to live outside the box.
