THE FLYING CLASSROOM (DAS FLIEGENDE KLASSENZIMMER) Made in Germany

Expelled from eight boarding schools, Jonathan arrives at St. Thomas School, home of the world-famous boys’ choir. Joining his new roommates at their secret meeting place, an abandoned. train car, he discovers a mysterious stranger named Bob-and the script for a play, The Flying Classroom. The kids decide to spiff it up with new music and rap lyrics as their contribution to the school’s Christmas show. Unaware of the play’s author and what it means to their favorite teacher, Justus, the children unwittingly trigger a turbulent chain of events that has its origin in the formerly divided Germany.

Based on a much beloved novel by famous German author Erich Kastner, and directed by Tomy Wigand with a heart-warming straightforwardness that doesn’t hide longing behind coolness, THE FLYING CLASSROOM has become one of the most successful German movies of this year, winning Germany’s most prestigious film awards-the Bavarian Film Award 2003 and the German Film Award 2003 in Gold.
