IN AMERICA Special Screenings

Director Jim Sheridan’s (MY LEFT FOOT, IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER) semi-autobiographical film, IN AMERICA is an intimate story of an Irish family’s pursuit of dreams in New York City.

IN AMERICA is told through the eyes of Christy, the eldest of two young daughters (real life scene stealers and sisters Emma and Sarah Bolger). Yet it is also a coming-of-age story about her parents, an Irish couple (Samantha Morton and Paddy Considine) who are setting up a new life in America and trying to make the most of it. They befriend their forbidding neighbor (the ever impressive Djimon Hounsou). Ever present in this wondrous film is their son Frankie, who died when he was two years old. It is not so much that Frankie haunts the family as his memory is so palpable and the pain of it howls in their silence.

This personal and beautiful film was co-written by Sheridan and his two daughters, Kirsten and Naomi. The rapturous ensemble performances shine in this remarkably rich script
