ZULU LOVE LETTER International Feature Competition

There is no sense in reliving the past unless it leads to personal catharsis and a sense of social justice. ZULU LOVE LETTER is a stirring portrait of the women left behind due to the ravages of apartheid’s political regime.

Nearly a decade after the inauguration of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, the past still continues to haunt South Africa. Thandeka a 30-something single mother and journalist, can’t shake her personal demons and desperately wants to reach out to her 13-year-old deaf daughter, Mangi. But it’s hard to tell a child about anger. Thandeka is forced to face her haunting past, however, when Me’Tau, the mother of a slain student activist, contacts her. Their search for Dineo’s remains endangers all their lives, as the killers stalk them to cover the tracks of their past crimes.

ZULU LOVE LETTER is exuberant cinema, the lush dream sequences and powerful force of the film’s visuals creating a truly transforming experience, granting us access to a complicated culture that combines history and the beginnings of hope.
