AN AMERICAN HAUNTING American Directions

Based on true events, this is the only time in US history where the government has acknowledged that supernatural forces were responsible for a man’s death. Donald Sutherland stars as John Bell, a God-fearing head of the household in rural Tennessee during the 1800s. One fall, his family becomes the target of malevolent spirits. His wife, portrayed by Sissy Spacek, begins to fear for the lives of her children and herself.

The demon that terrorized these people would eventually come to be known as the Bell Witch. Director Courtney Solomon adapted the 1997 novel The Bell Witch: An American Haunting and cast newcomer Rachel Hurd-Wood as the tormented Betsy Bell. He used an innovative sound design and classical horror themes to create a new American Gothic film that is profoundly disturbing.

This is one of the most eagerly anticipated ghost stories from America. What adds to the terror is the fact that it all actually happened, one cold autumn in Tennessee. A film that dares to explore the reality of the supernatural, this ghost story will have you guessing right up until the end.
