BAM BAM AND CELESTE American Directions

Margaret Cho wrote and stars in this candy colored comedic tale of two social misfits on a classic road trip. Together since high school, Barn Barn and his best friend Celeste have always been outcasts. Years later, they are still trying to find where exactly they fit in the world and are horrified at the prospect of becoming Illinois townies. When Celeste’s favorite makeover show, TRADING FACES, offers them a trip to the Big Apple, they head off knowing their dreams must be just around the corner.

Filled with Cho’s trademark bitter and self-deprecating humor, there’s a sly smile behind every crushing on-screen humiliation. Celeste’s mother also makes a couple of appearances, and Cho’s unbelievably hilarious portrait of the mother shines. While battling prejudiced and judgmental people all along the way, Bam Bam and Celeste make the journey to New York only to discover that their biggest obstacles are still waiting for them when they get there.

Featuring stellar supporting performances from John Cho, Alan Cumming and Kathy Najimy, this caustic fairy tale is almost uncomfortably funny. Margaret Cho and her longtime collaborator Bruce Daniels have created a film destined to be a cult classic.
