QUEENS (REINAS) European Film Showcase

A laugh out loud send-up of the perfect wedding day, QUEENS is a flawlessly executed, highly stylized romp from acclaimed director Manuel Gomez Pereira (SALSA ROSA).

Set in and around the first ever gay wedding in Spain, QUEENS is a touching and contemporary ensemble comedy. As five headstrong women (Marisa Paredes, Veronica Forque, Carmen Maura, Mercedes Sampietro, Bettiana Blum) prepare for the marriages of their sons, these five very different women deal with their own desires, prejudices and histories, they attempt to survive the weekend as sex, anger, bigotry and love hilariously clash in this ultimate wedding film about the strength of love and the importance of family.

Sophisticated camera work along with fluid editing and direction keeps the tempo lively as the characters’ hi-jinks continue to careen into one another in a downward spiral. With exceptionally articulated performances from the ensemble cast-QUEENS is a playfully unforgettable film.
