RIPLEY UNDER GROUND Special Screenings

Tom Ripley returns to the screen and gleefully cuts another psychopathic swath through high society. Patricia Highsmith’s Ripley is a devious creation with no morality but a cunning intellect and a deft sense of style. Alan Cumming co-stars as the art dealer who gets seduced into Ripley’s scheme, while Willem Dafoe plays an increasingly suspicious art collector. The film also features Tom Wilkinson as the detective who tries to ensnare the ever-elusive Ripley.

In this chapter, Tom befriends a rising star in the international art world. His new friend is unstable, and soon Tom must come up with another clever plan to maintain his social profile. As the lies pile up and the truth closes in, Ripley must dance a tightrope act between the light of his high society life and the darkness of his true murderous nature.

In RIPLEY UNDER GROUND, it becomes apparent that Tom’s fluid sense of self and his amoral behavior allow for his creative plans to flourish. It’s not that he is necessarily attracted to rich or poor men or women, but more that he simply has a strong desire to, well, be desired-so he will and must ignore any societal convention that stands in the way.
