ECHO Dark Horizons

When a divorced man kidnaps his own son because he cannot bear the thought of losing him, he falls off the edge of reason and into a haunting fantasy that is both thrilling and horrifying.

As a police officer, Simon is expected to be in control of his emotions, but when he decides to take his six-year-old son on a “vacation” to an abandoned summerhouse where they play make-believe, he enters a new land. Father and son pretend that they are on an island surrounded by crocodiles and deadly pirates; they must keep out of sight and keep out of the water Villads Milthers Fritsche, as the son, Louie, is charming and intelligent, with little boy eyes that can see everything.

Director Anders Morgenthaler deftly and beautifully straddles genres, leaving us haunted by the thought of how young Louie will remember this summer when he is a man.
