CHRIS & DON: A LOVE STORY International Documentary Competition

One of the most touching love stories of the year, Guido Santi and Tina Mascara’s CHRIS & DON . A LOVE STORY chronicles the 30-year relations hip between British born author Christopher Isherwood (whose novel The Berlin Stories would later become the film and musical CABARET), and his much younger partner, artist Don Bachardy. With home movie footage, candid recollections from Don and entries from Isherwood’s personal journal, the couple’s passion and commitment comes alive. During the course of their relationship, Isherwood would nurture Don to become an accomplished painter. In animated sequences depicting their alter-egos, “ho rse and kitty,” which they drew for each other over the years, we’re draw n deeper into their world of affection. Isherwood is forever immortalized in countless paintings and drawings lovingly crafted by Don over the years, and in fitting farewell, Don devotedly painted Isherwood on his deathbed. As Don soldiers on alone, sleeping on a single bed in Isherwood study, we’re reminded of the impact and gravity of sacred life long partnership. Santi and Mascara’s film will make you believe in the power of love all over again.
