SILENT LIGHT (STELLET LICHT) World Cinema: Latin Showcase

Carlos Reygadas’s (JAPON, BATTLE IN HEAVEN) new film is a beautifully haunting meditation on the impermanence of existence and love, infused with an ethereal peace. In this emotion ally mature story about a small Mennonite community in Mexico, Reygadas lets the audience peek into the domestic rituals of a couple living a life rarely seen on film.

Johan (Cornelio Wall Fehr) and his family are Mennonites from the north of Mexico. Against the law of God and man, Johan falls in love with another woman.

Propelled by the excellent performances of mostly non-actors, who are bold, unflinchingly immediate and evocatively unpredictable, SILENT LIGHT is urgent, emotive and innovative filmmaking. Reygadas firmly establishes himself as a bright light in cinema and a passionately inventive filmmaker.
