THE LAST STATION Galas and Tributes

In this comic-dramatic account of Leo Tolstoy’s final months, Tolstoy (Christopher Plummer, in a magnificent performance) has renounced writing fiction and started a movement focused on pacifism, chastity and the abolishment of private property. His secretary (James McAvoy) mediates between two formidable opponents who vie for control of the author’s manuscripts: Chertkov (Paul Giamatti) and Sofya (Helen Mirren), Tolstoy’s wife, who proves her dedication by copying War and Peace six times by hand.
