MON ONCLE Guest Artistic Director

Exquisite, extreme, French ’50s with the big heart and humor of Jacques Tati. – David Lynch Jocques Tati’s suspicion of automated modern life is never so apparent as in his film MON ONCLE . Monsieur Hulot lets loose in this delightful satire complete with exaggerated set design and outlandish costumes (in particular one coot so chic that its bearer is mistaken for a rug dealer) Madame Arpel lives in her ultra-modern home, designed to impress and equipped with all the latest gadgets, including a self-cleaning stove . She worries for her unemployed, unwed brother, Monsieur Hulot, who lives in the humble port of town where people argue out loud and stray dogs room the streets . The two worlds collide when the hilariously constrained family tries to procure Monsieur Hulot a job and a wife . This critics’ favorite won the 1958 Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.
